Think twice before you “like” a post on Facebook!
Shaheen Dhada condemned the “bandh” (shutdown of a city) that was observed by Mumbai, following the death of Balasaheb Thackeray, a prominent political figure. She posted a status message on Facebook which reportedly read, "People like Bal Thacheray are born and die daily and one should not observe a bandh for that.". This offended the sentiments of his followers. One of whom lodged a FIR against her, following which she was arrested by the Mumbai police, booking her under Section 295 (a) of the IPC (for hurting religious sentiments ) and Section 64 (a) of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
What was more surprising was the fact that a friend who “liked” the status was also taken into custody, for she “supported” the condemning thoughts!

Mumbai stops for Bal Thackeray's funeral, thousands gather to pay tribute

Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, the architect of the sons-of-the-soil ideology in Mumbai, died after nearly four months of illness at his Mumbai residence, 'Matoshree' on Saturday.

Thackeray, who ruled the city for more than four decades, passed away after nearly four months of illness following a cardiac arrest. He was 86.

 The funeral procession will begin from Thackeray's residence in Bandra. A vehicle with Thackeray's body will be taken in a vehicle to Shiv Sena Bhavan for party workers to pay their respects.
"From there, it will be taken to Shivaji Park where the public can pay their last respects from 10am," party MP Sanjay Raut told mediapersons on Saturday evening.

 Last rites will take place at a crematorium near Shivaji Park at 6pm this evening, according to reports.
According to authorities, at least five lakh people are expected to gather at Shivaji Park to pay their tributes.

On Saturday, his general physician, Dr Jalil Parkar, who has been treating him since 2009, announced his passing outside his home, where thousands of Sainiks had been keeping vigil following news of his ill-health for the past 72 hours.
"With great grief and sadness, we wish to inform you that Balasaheb Thackeray breathed his last at 3.30 pm following cardio-respiratory arrest. We could not revive him," Parkar announced at around 4.45 pm.

Mumbai disrupted as Bal Thackeray fights for his life

MUMBAI (Reuters) - Parts of Mumbai were shut down on Thursday as supporters of firebrand Hindu nationalist leader Bal Keshav Thackeray flocked into India's commercial capital, alarmed by reports that he was close to death after a sharp decline in his health.

An official of Thackeray's Shiv Sena party told Reuters that the 86-year-old was in a critical condition and on a ventilator, with doctors attending to him around the clock.

Founder and president of the hardline Shiv Sena (Shiva's Army), Thackeray has long been one of India's most polarising politicians. Although one of Mumbai's most influential public figures, he has been widely criticised for his fiery rhetoric on social issues such as immigration and communalism.

Hundreds of Thackeray's followers kept vigil outside his house in Mumbai's central suburbs on Thursday, under a heavy police presence, including riot officers who barricaded roads and set up a security cordon in case of violence. Protests by party supporters in the past have led to violence.

Shops in areas of Mumbai where Shiv Sena has strong support were shuttered and roads in the typically bustling business district were quiet. The financial markets operated normally, but some banks allowed employees to go home early.

Rumours spread on social media sites on Wednesday that Thackeray had died, but a Shiv Sena spokesman said his condition had improved on Thursday.

"He is being given the best treatment there and his condition is stable," Sanjay Raut said. "He is responding to treatment. His condition had worsened last night, but right now he is responding to treatment."

One of the most outspoken figures of India's Hindu nationalist movement, Thackeray has in the past called for the formation of Hindu suicide squads, once ordered his followers to dig up a cricket pitch to stop the Pakistani team from playing in Mumbai and spoke of his admiration for Adolf Hitler.

Shiv Sena, which has controlled Mumbai's city council since 1996, is a key ally of the national opposition Bharatiya Janata Party. Thackeray's death could spark a power struggle in Shiv Sena, denting its support with its vote base in Maharashtra state, where he has been the face of the party.

The Imperial is a twin-tower residential skyscraper complex in Mumbai that were the tallest buildings in the country till June 2012 when Palais Royale topped out.
